Before I answer your question, I have a question for you; what’s the weather like in the City of Angels?

Because right now, as I type this from my home in the UK, its bloody freezing and if it’s warmer where you are, then I think I may have to answer your question in person!

On to your question, does it matter if the watch isn’t ‘Dick Tracy’ branded? Because if that’s what you’re after, then I’m sorry to say that, to the best of my knowledge at least, a ‘Dick Tracy’ branded two-way radio wristwatch doesn’t exist. If/when they make another DT movie (the last time they did, I was a little boy and I had the promotional T-shirt, so we must be due for one), then it seems likely that they will make one. There are many reasons for this common (yet absurdly nauseating) occurrence. Generally, however, it is basically due to the loose wire which enable it to often be set by pushing the wire in the direction of the earpiece and, if needs be, fixing it into place with a little electrical tape, super glue, or some other bonding agent.

Now and again, if the earpieces have an inline volume turn, that can be the cause. That one is a bit trickier to fix, but you can always try the ‘wire trick’ pointed out above and see if it works. If not, then open the volume wheel and re-solder the cables into place (be warned, this will invalidate most warranties, so if the ‘phones are still covered, just send ‘em back and find replacements).  Continue reading One of the earpieces has stopped working, why? →

If you use GP340 radios in your work, then you need to look at these earpieces

We ended the last piece by saying that you shouldn’t use the featured product to guard the life of America’s president. However, we’ll begin this piece by saying that, if you are looking to guard President Obama this summer, then you’re getting closer to the right idea with this earpiece.

The GP340 covert earpiece is a serious piece of equipment. This earpiece comes attached to one of those curly receivers, the kind you’ve seen Agent Smith wearing in The Matrix movies. The GP340 earpiece is a device designed for use with the Motorola GP340 range of two-way radio devices.

This is an understated earpiece that you use instead of making your presence felt, when subtlety and understatement are the aims of the game. If you’re concerned with security or protection, then the GP340 could well be the earpiece for you.

Earpieceonline lists this bad boy for £27.50, so it’s only a couple of quid more than the GP300, but it’s a couple of quid worth paying, especially if you value discretion.

There’s also no need for any kind of adaptor when you buy the GP340 earpiece, this model has a multipin plug that can connect directly to any Motorola two-way radio. In addition, there’s a built-in ‘push to talk’ button and microphone, but it is considerably smaller than the one found on most other models.

The GP340 earpiece features the same sprung clothing clip as our last model, a surgical grade acoustic eartube (as well as a spare tip) and a Kevlar-reinforced cable. It also comes with a snazzy drawstring pouch as well. Add to that a 12-month warranty (included in the price) and you’re definitely onto a winner.

Sound-wise, the GP340 earpiece provides clear, reliable sound and performs well in trying weather conditions.

However, the GP340 earpiece is not quite a top-range product, it represents fantastic value, for sure, and it works fine for most purposes, but if you have specialist requirements, then you should probably stick with this series and see what else is out there.

Overall, the GP340 earpiece is an excellent product that offers fantastic value for money. It would do a good job in most situations and comes pretty highly recommended all round.

If you use motorola 2 way radios in your work, then you need to read this

Last time, we looked at an earpiece expressly designed to work on the GP340 2 way radio ranges. Now, we’ll be looking at the CP040 earpiece, an affordable and adaptable little doohickey that is amazingly exciting, but additionally does little to break your bank account.

The Cp040 2-pin earpiece is much like the Motorola gp300 earpiece. It is little, smart and inexpensive, however it also is quite good value for money. EarpieceOnline lists this earpiece for about £11.50, however it’s a reasonably good buy for the price.

We will be honest, everything is quite basic on that model, but the device performs its function well and definitely won’t let anyone down.

The noise quality of the Motorola cp040 earpiece is very good indeed and also the PTT ‘push to talk’ utility is convenient and easy to use. As usual, the Motorola cp040 earpiece features a sprung lapel clip that attaches easily to nearly all items of clothing (you may find it a challenge if you’re planning on using it while dressed as the giant Sumo combatant and competing on ‘Takeshi’s Castle’, but besides that…).

As with the motorola gp300 series, as it only features a two-pin plug, an adaptor block might be necessary for use with the GP320 and Motorola gp340 series of two way radios.

The ergonomic D-shaped earpiece itself is comfortable to wear and typically discreet. It may be easily utilised in either the left or right ear, depending on the user’s individual preference. The Motorola cp040 earpiece fits nearly all ear dimensions, so unless you happen to be Prince Charles or Martin Clunes (Editor’s Note: or my Uncle Steve), you should not have too many comfort issues, if any.

There’s no Kevlar cable on this one, yet and it certainly is not one of the best model around. However, this is not to put that the CP040 is really a poor earpiece, not at all. It just isn’t the best.

In general, the Cp040 2-pin earpiece is functional, instead of flashy. It does its job without frills (but also no temper tantrums). This is a excellent, solid product from the business that excels at producing such products. It also provides enormous value for money, too.

Why having a good pair of earpieces makes financially sense

Like a absolute and total music nut (some might say ‘nerd’) headsets are very important to me. The precise sounds that we play from our earphones are exceptional to every aficionado of sound.
